Balancing Your eBay Business and Your Family Time

eBay is an attractive alternate to standard nine-to-five jobs for mothers who want to spend more time with their kids. Being an online business, eBay is available 24 hours a day, which gives you the flexibility you need to be able to create your own schedule. With your own schedule, you can spend as much time with your kids as you want.

Finding items to sell is easier than you might imagine, as well. The average family household has over $6,000 worth of items that they would consider to be either unused or unwanted. This is a great starting point for eBay businesses because it does not require that you purchase items in order to start selling.

Once you’ve started to make a profit, you will then have to decide how much of your money you will reinvest into your business. Do you reinvest all of it or none? One good rule that you should consider is the “Half Rule.” Reinvest half of your money into purchasing new items for your store and keep the other half as profit. Not only will this prevent you from losing money by buying too many items for your store, it will also allow you to see profit right away. As your business takes off, you can begin to reinvest less, so that your family can take advantage of your new income.

Running your eBay business is not as demanding as you might expect, either. Work when you feel like, whenever you have spare time. Before your kids are awake or after they are asleep are especially good times to devote to an eBay business because you are not missing out on any family time this way. With your schedule there are undoubtedly other moments like those (school, sports practices, etc), when you can focus on eBay without sacrificing being with your kids.

As your children get older, you could even let them start adding items of their own to your store. These items could be home-made creations or simply unwanted toys. If they are interested in helping you with your eBay business, let them. That way, eBay time becomes family time.

Running an eBay business as a stay-at-home mom can be both advantageous to your family and fun. Make as much or as little money as you want by choosing how many hours you work each week, and, most importantly, it can be done all on your own schedule.
