Scheduling Your eBay Business Time While Raising the Kids

For stay-at-home moms, time management is by far the most pressing concern when deciding whether or not to run a home eBay business. Working from home can give you the freedom and flexibility to work when and as you please, but as your business picks up, it will likely require more and more time away from your kids. The key to being a stay-at-home mom running a successful eBay business is finding the balance between family time and “eBay” time.

First of all, there are certain advantages to running an eBay business from home. You are working your own schedule and are still accessible to your children, which means that you do not have to miss those important moments in their lives. eBay also gives you the ability to earn a healthy living, but successful time management is the most important aspect of whether you will be happy with your eBay business.

The first thing you need to do is to examine your daily schedule very carefully. Are your kids in school all day? When do they take their naps? When do they have alone time? These times when you are on your own are all you need in order to manage your eBay business.

Next, planning your days out in advance is an important aspect of using your free time effectively. Schedule an hour of eBay time when your kids are having their morning naps. Mornings are good for replying to customer questions and handling customer service. At lunchtime, after the kids are sitting down and eating, plan on using that time to pack and ready the items you sold for shipment. Once the kids are asleep, take an hour or two to list your new items.

Additionally, all throughout the day you can find a few moments to squeeze in extra time to answer more customer questions, respond to emails, and search the Internet for new ideas for items to sell. You can also use your extra time to take pictures of your items and write up their descriptions.

It is entirely possible that you find it harder to stay away from your work than you anticipated. Set ground rules for yourself so that you know when your work day is over. It can be that you only work a specific number of hours a day or that you are finished at a certain time each day.

Figuring out a schedule that works for you and then sticking to it is the best thing that you can do for yourself and your eBay business. That way, you’ll have time for both your family and your budding business.
